Two German women – a mother and her daughter – were found dead in Namibia.
The bodies of the two were discovered on Monday, following a two day aerial search by the police.
Police say they cannot release the identity of the two women aged 28 and 47 because their relatives have not yet been confirmed.
Police spokesperson, Slogan Matheus, told the press that the two arrived in Namibia to pick up the remains of their deceased relative who is said to have died in the southern African country last month.
Matheus said the police were notified on Saturday that the Germans went hiking on Thursday and had not returned.
Officers then launched a search with the aid of a helicopter and found their bodies at the Fish River Canyon.
Namibian police chief Sebastian Ndeitunga told AFP that he had been told by his officials that the two may have planned to commit suicide in Namibia.
But the police spokesperson refused to comment on the suicide allegations.
“We can’t confirm that because the deceased left quite a few of their documents, and we can’t at this stage interpret any to be a suicide note,” Matheus told AFP.
